Matthew has especially been motivated by the new sleep chart system.
After weeks of interrupted sleep and a crowded queen bed, we instituted a new system with a sleep chart. The boys would get the date circled for each night they spent in their beds. Otherwise, they would get an “x” and have to start over. The reward for sleeping 7 nights in a row (Matthew) or 14 nights in a row (Steven) in their own beds was a guilt-free all-night sleepover in our bed. The chart really helped to motivate Matthew, especially, but we still had interrupted sleep occasionally thanks to a certain active kitten.
The “Advent Calendar” is another Big Household Event in our family. We have a few things going on during our family Advent time.
One child gets to put up the next piece in our little Advent Nativity set:
Then we pull out a little drawer in our new reusable Advent calendar, which I’ve already prestuffed with five pieces of candy (or one fruit rollup which gets chopped up)…
…a little cardstock piece from previous chocolate Advent calendars that has part of the Christmas story painted on it (we read the entire thing every day so the kids practically have it memorized)…
…and a slip of paper with that day’s activity (printed from Everyday Emmanuel’s list of activities). On Sundays, we also read the devotional from Everyday Emmanuel and then light a candle in our Advent “wreath.”
Our children LOVE our Advent time, and as this is the first year that Benjamin can really be involved, he is WAY into it. He’s usually the first one to ask if it’s time to do the Advent calendar. This particular morning, he was sitting up in bed when Steven walked in the room and literally pumped both his fists with excitement!
This is all about my love-hate relationship with my Pen Type-A with the Pilot Hi-Tec C refill. I still have not been able use a Hi-Tec C refill without it going dead on me at some point and/or leaking. Everyone else seems to love the Hi-Tec C, but when I get through the last of my refill stash I might have to try something else!
Steve told me that the other night after he put the boys to bed, he could hear someone yelling and singing. He thought it was Matthew, but when he went into Matthew and Benjamin’s shared bedroom, there was sudden silence. He could hear Matthew snoring. It wasn’t until he started to leave the room that Benjamin very quietly gave himself away.
