Work it out.

One of the parenting mantras we have a hard time keeping to is to “stay out of fights,” and encourage the boys to work things out on their own. The underlying idea here is that most of the time, kids fight with each other in order to get their parents’ attention. If you remove that attention and stay disinterested, they will figure out that fighting with each other doesn’t really “accomplish” anything.

As the parent, though, it’s hard to stay out of fights, which is probably why our kids continue to fight with each other…
